Sunday Funday - Chili Cook Off

Our first SundayFunday - Chili Cook Off was a great success. It was a day filled with laughter, old-fashioned party games like musical chairs and of course a Chili cook off, complete with ribbons for everyone. We even awarded a grand prize Chili Champion to our friends Derrick and his sister Jennifer!

We gathered with our friends from Katie’s House, Smile of Hopatcong, and Peace by Piece. Lennon’s House entered their best recipe along with Derrick and his sister, Jennifer (future resident at Rebecca’s Homestead), our dear friend Laurie Barden and her very unique tasting chili. We definitely plan to have more SundayFundays in the future to gather and enjoy simple fun and fellowship. These days are a great way to gather with our community, their families, caregivers and supporters - the lifeline of Rebecca’s Homestead. We rely on your encouraging words, texts, calls, attendance at our fundraising events, donations, and volunteering of your time and talent.

Spring Cleanup - Day of Service

You are all amazing. To those who signed up for our first day in the yard at Rebecca’s homestead, we are amazed. Some came as strangers at first, now friends of Rebecca’s Homestead. We are grateful for your hard work in helping us prepare the property for our future chickens, goats, and gardens.

Together as a family.

On April 2, we planted 13 fruit trees, finished the wire fencing for the chickens, and cut away fallen trees and debris along our new hiking trail. We improved and increased the community garden with more ground-level tilled soil, now prepped and ready for spring plantings. Volunteers helped put together a cold shed and we started cleaning windows. Our free library box built by Claudio, a Habitat for Humanity Volunteer, was painted and is ready to receive and lend books.

We all gathered together for food, inside and out. We love these days! By the time we were finished, we had 30 volunteers. The fire pit was cleared

and burned all afternoon for a quick warm up and treats of S’mores for our hard-working volunteers.

Throughout the day we worked alongside some wonderful friends of Rebecca’s that are now learning the skills of wheelbarrow walking, and digging a great hole to plant a small tree. We welcomed Jennifer and her son Sean from North Caldwell who wanted to see Rebecca’s Homestead where she hopes to plan for Yes, just hope for her word, so one day she can plan for her future for her son.

We also welcomed Mr. David Zweier, VP - Enterprise Program Management Office at Selective Insurance. We’re thrilled that Selective Insurance, a neighbor in Branchville, is interested in helping us as corporate sponsors for a future work day.

Finally, we were interviewed by the Lake Hopatcong News about the work being done at Rebecca’s Homestead.

We are so blessed to be in this with all of you. It encourages us to keep going because you show up and believe in what we are doing as much as we do. Thank you!
